Columbus, Ohio (AP) -- Gov. Ted Strickland says now is not the time to procrastinate on education reform if Ohio wants to begin an economic revival.

The democrat said Monday in remarks to the Columbus Metropolitan Club that bickering would not lead to better schools.

Strickland's plans to overhaul the curriculum, improve Ohio's school funding system and lengthen the school year are heading to the republican-controlled senate.

Republicans have argued that his plans are overly dependent on one-time federal stimulus money.

Strickland is doing his best to explain why his reforms are needed now.

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan is scheduled to appear with Strickland in Columbus this week to help sell the plan.
