Sparta, Wis. (AP) -- Authorities say it's still not clear how a 41-year-old Ohio National Guard soldier died at a training base in Wisconsin.

The Ohio National Guard said Tuesday that Staff Sgt. Porter Yeater of Ashland, Ohio, was found dead in his room at Fort McCoy on April 28.

He was at the base near Sparta for five days attending a 10-day leadership class for noncommissioned officers.

A Fort McCoy spokeswoman has said Yeater did not report being ill and there were no signs of foul play.

The Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office in Sparta says autopsy results are still pending.

Ohio Guard spokesman Capt. Marshall Jackson says Yeater had more than 20 years in the guard and was assigned to the 112th Transportation Battalion in Brook Park, Ohio.
