Morgantown, WV (AP) -- Democratic Congressman Alan Mollohan is attracting a group of would-be GOP challengers.

Republicans Randy Scott Smith, Daniel Scott Swisher and Cindy Hall have filed pre-candidacy papers with the Secretary of State's Office to run against Mollohan for West Virginia's First Congressional District seat.

Smith is from Terra Alta and Hall is a resident of Wheeling.

Swisher lives in Burlington, Conn., but the Parkersburg native says he plans to move back to West Virginia.

Mollohan is a 14-term congressman and ran unopposed in 2008.

He handily defeated his last republican challenger, Chris Wakim in 2006.

I agree with Sue. We must begin to start electing "regular" people as our representatives and get rid of these "professional" politicians who place Party and self interest above the nation which they should SERVE. Yet how many of us really feel and believe "we the people" are being represented in this manner? We do not need the "politically experienced" person to represent us....just an intelligent and honest individual willing to SERVE sacrificially, not for power or financial gain!

Why do we allow these politicans to serve so many terms? Most people speak out wanting change in our government, but at election time, vote the very same ones right back into office. I believe term limits need to be be set. Another example of this is Sen. Byrd. No matter how many good deeds these lifers have done, there is always room for improvement. Give someone else a chance, the results just may be for the better.
