WV Joins National Effort To Stop Charity Fraud

Charleston, WV (AP) -- West Virginia has joined a nationwide effort to protect citizens from fraudulent charities.

Attorney General Darrell McGraw's Office said Wednesday that under operation false charity the state participated in enforcement actions against two companies.

The operation focuses on charities that claim proceeds go to benefit police, firefighters and veterans.

McGraw's Office said it is one of 32 states to settle claims against Milwaukee-based Community Support Inc.

The company kept up to 90 percent of every contribution.

he settlement provides for $200,000 in restitution and blocks the company from using false solicitation practices.

Phoenix-based I Glo Workshop agreed to stop soliciting in West Virginia until it complies with state charity laws.
