Huntington, WV (AP) -- Marshall University hopes it can attract high-performing students by creating a new honors college to coordinate the efforts of the school's honors programs.

The school announced Thursday that the Center for Academic Excellence will be renamed the Marshall University Honors College, which will house all honors programs at the university.

Provost Gayle Ormiston says the new college will give Marshall better visibility among high school students with qualifications to be honors students.

The honors college is expected to launch in fall 2010.

Mary Todd, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio, has been named dean of the honors college.
