Columbus, Ohio (AP) -- A man has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of his 7-year-old nephew after he left the boy and his 6-year-old son home alone with a loaded ak-47 assault rifle.
Thirty-one-year-old Ernest Broomfield II also pleaded guilty Tuesday to tampering with evidence.
Prosecutors say the boys found the gun in a bedroom when Broomfield left to buy a cigar on July 29.
They say the younger boy shot his cousin Isaiah Lewis in the face, killing him.
Police say Broomfield returned and hid the gun and carried the dead boy to a nearby alley before calling authorities for help.
Broomfield faces up to 15 years in prison at his July 8 sentencing.
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Charles A. Schneider ordered that Broomfield be placed on house arrest.
