Akron, Ohio (AP) -- Akron's police union has voted by a narrow margin to back the removal of Mayor Don Plusquellic in a June 23 recall election.
Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 says the rank-and-file voted 168-166 to back the recall.
Two days of voting ended Wednesday.
Plusquellic, a democrat, has been mayor for 23 years and has had prickly relations with the police.
The mayor says the vote won't affect his determination to work with the police department.
Still, the mayor says he has been frustrated with opposition to his attempts to modernize crime-fighting in Akron.
