Point Pleasant, W.Va. (AP) -- For the second time since 2007, Point Pleasant has appointed a new mayor because of a resignation.
City Clerk Brian Billings was appointed Saturday by the city council to fill the term originally won in 2007 by Marilyn McDaniel.
She resigned last year, and was replaced by Leonard "Buster" Riffle, a political fixture who served on the council from 1966 to 1999.
This week, Riffle stepped down, citing health problems.
Billings, who has resigned as clerk, is scheduled to serve as mayor of the Mason County town until July 2011.
