Martinsburg, W.Va. (AP) -- A newspaper reports police have found the body of a woman inside a Martinsburg home and arrested a former boyfriend accused of taking her hostage.

State Police Capt. Rob Blair told the Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, MD., the standoff that began Sunday morning ended Monday afternoon after officers lobbed gas into the home.

He said a medical examiner was called to the scene.

Additional details were unavailable.

Blair didn't immediately return a telephone message from the Associated Press.

Police earlier identified the suspect as 37-year-old Donald Berkeley Surber of Winchester, VA.

Nine families in the neighborhood had been moved to a shelter and were allowed to return to their homes about 3 p.m. Monday.
