Toledo, Ohio (AP) -- A Toledo-area man accused of strangling his wife and stuffing her body into a car trunk 18 years ago has been convicted of murder.

After four hours of deliberation, a Common Pleas Court jury on Wednesday found 62-year-old Thomas Zich of Swanton guilty.

He was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

The frozen body of Mary Jane Zich was found in the trunk of a car outside a bar a week before Christmas in 1991.

Prosecutors rested their case Tuesday without calling the defendant's former stepdaughter to testify.

The woman, who is now 20 years old, was 3 when her mother died. She said at the time that she saw the killing.

The defense had objected to her possible testimony, arguing that her memories were unreliable and that she had made inconsistent statements.
