May Ohio County And City Unemployment Numbers Released

Columbus, Ohio (AP) -- Two counties in Ohio's northwest corner are leading the state in unemployment.

Numbers released by the state today show that Williams county had a jobless rate of 17.1 percent in May.

Neighboring Defiance county followed, with unemployment of 16.1 percent.

Fast-growing Delaware county north of Columbus had last month's lowest unemployment rate, at 6.7 percent.

Officials said last friday that the state's unemployment rate rose to 10.8 percent in May, the highest since october 1983.

Toledo had the highest rate among the state's largest cities last month, with unemployment of 14.3 percent.

Cleveland Heights was at the other end of the scale, at 7.2 percent.
