The new Miss West Virginia made her first public speech since she earned the title Saturday night.
Talia Markham, from Ripley, took the crown of Miss West Virginia over the weekend, and is now doing what she says she likes best about the job so far, and that's speaking to the public.
Markham says she loves having the honorable title, and hopes she can use it to encourage folks to just be themselves.
"At the end of the day when we don't have our degrees, and we don't have our possessions and our accomplishments, the things that we can fit into a box, don't define who we are," Markham said.
She also says being Miss West Virginia is something she's been dreaming about for years.
