The event is the 2002 WTAP/Alltel Charity Golf Tournament at Woodridge Plantation in Mineral Wells.

While lots of local residents hit the links, the real winners are the Parkersburg Humane Society and the Ohio Valley Humane Society, headquartered in Marietta.

"Two worthwhile organizations, and we have a long relationship with them," says WTAP General Manager Roger Sheppard. "We have a 'pet of the week' on our WTAP news at noon, and lots of things we've done with the humane societies over the years. So it just seemed to make sense."
