Columbus, Ohio (AP) -- Ohio gasoline prices are down for the third straight week, in a change from last year when prices rose to an all-time high for the fourth of July.

The latest survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express puts the statewide average for regular at $2.55 per gallon, down 9 cents from last Monday.

Last year at this time, regular was averaging $3.99 in Ohio. The statewide average peaked at a record $4.05 a gallon on July 3, 2008.

Typically, gas prices decline about 10 percent -- 25 or 30 cents a gallon -- through the rest of the summer.

Oil prices hovered near $69 a barrel Monday, nearly twice what the price was in March, as investors looked to major economic indicators due later this week that could show signs of an improving U.S. economy.
