A new study lists West Virginia and Ohio in the top ten most obese states in the country; West Virginia coming in at number three, and Ohio at number ten.

As for the Mid-Ohio Valley, Camden Clark Memorial Hospital dietitian Lindsay Smith says the obesity rate has seemed to increase in the past few years.

Smith says the thing she sees most with her patients is that they simply need to cut back on portion sizes.

She also says adding more exercise to your routine is an easy way to shed some pounds.

Smith says these habits should start at a young age.

"Kids aren't as active as they used to be. There's computers. With Internet now, there's lots of video games, so keeping kids active, keeping them in sports, doing swimming, things like that," Smith said.

Studies show that adult obesity rates grew in 23 states last year, and did not decline anywhere.
