Lebanon, Ohio (AP) -- A southwest Ohio judge has ordered a new trial for a man found guilty of drowning his wife in a bathtub.
Judge Neal Bronson of Warren County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday ordered a new trial for 28-year-old Ryan Widmer of Lebanon.
A jury in April found that Widmer murdered 24-year-old Sarah Widmer last August.
Bronson says external matters discussed by jurors in deliberations violated Ryan Widmer's constitutional right to due process.
The defense argued that jurors acted as witnesses when they shared their observations of how long it took to air-dry their bodies after showering, and that attorneys couldn't question them.
A message seeking comment was left at defense attorney charlie rittgers' office.
A prosecutor's spokesman says that office is reviewing its options.
