The investigation is still on going into the death a 20 year-old Parkersburg man.

Parkersburg Police Chief Gerald Board said that there is no new information in the death of 20 year-old Chad Friend.

No charges have been filed.
Board said that they are still talking with the Prosecuting Attorney's Office about the case.

Board expects no new information before Monday morning to be released.

He says that the shooting looks like a black and white situation, but it's not.

Chad Friend was shot and later died after an altercation on 39th Street in Parkersburg on Thursday.

Police say one man is dead from a gun shot wound after a confrontation with a neighbor on 39th Street in Parkersburg.

Parkersburg Police Chief Gerald Board says that Chad Friend, in his early 20's, died from a gun shot wound to the upper body.

Friend was a 2007 Parkersburg High School graduate.

The call came in a little after 5:30 pm Thursday.

Wood County 911 says Friend was taken to Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

Chief Board says it started with a confrontation between neighbors and soon escalated.

The fatal shooting happened on the 1000 block of 39th Street.

Chief Board is unsure what provoked the argument.

Initially, the call came in to Central Dispatch stating that a child had been shot.

However, Chief Board has clarified to WTAP that the victim was, in fact, an adult male.

The incident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed yet.

I am Chad's best friend. I'd just like to say thank you for everyone's thoughts and prayers. It means so much to his family, fiance and I. Those of you who are making judgements on this whole thing, I just pray that you will open your eyes and not be blind to this and realize, you don't understand the whole situation. There is more to this story than what I know. Honestly, I don't care what happens to the man who thought this was necassary to kill such a great man. I just hope that it haunts him everyday, and that he realizes what a wonderful man he took. But thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Miss you bro, love ya man.

R.I.P Chad <3 first of all, my prayers and condolences are with the Friend family. second of all, whomever the shooter was does deserve full punishment. it doesnt matter if it was self-defense, trespassing or any of that other stuff. You do not bring a gun to confrontation, simple as that. I hope the shooter gets everything he deserves. thanks for reading!

I know both parties invovled and this is very sad but this is exactley why we have courts to decide. The father should of not went and got chad to help him fight this battle. What do they teach us when we are young sticks and stones, well the father went to far! Wasn't chad in the service he could have faced felony charges for assault! And for the other person involved no he should not of had that gun out at all but fear somtimes kicks in and we act without thinking. Maybe he thought this was his only line of defense, I mean Chad was definetly built and this other person saw chad coming and his father and probably thought this will make them go away. Theres no good reason for this to happen and a young innocent undeveloped future has been taken away but two lives have been affected also two families. When I get upset at somone I don't go get some body to help me fight my battles. Mr. friend used poor judgement in going to get his son and now he has passed! Let this be an example to all!

What a wonderful young man the Friend family raised. I have known this family for many years. I know their life is their children and my heart is breaking for them.

To Homer~ Please reread the story..the comment that it appears to be a black and white situation but it's not means it is not a cut and dry case..nothing about race. Geesh why does everyone in this town want to make everything racial. Learn how to read for christ's sake. It isn't a cut and dry case as it appears because however unfortunate Chad's death is he was on the other person's property being aggressive with his father. I do not agree with shooting someone over an arguement but I can see why the police have not arrested anyone..on one hand it is self defense and on the other the gun went off when Chad's dad grabbed the gun.

I am outraged at how this matter is being handled. First I am so sorry for the family who have lost their beloved son. Why is the man still not being arrested? I would like to know how you can justify still having this man on the street for this family to have to see everyday knowing that he killed their son. I have a 20 year old son, and would be shocked and very angry to see the local law enforcement doing nothing to the man whom did this. Can you just imagine having to see this man everyday mowing his grass having a cookout living right next to you after he just murdered your son. I believe the public and family deserve answers. Why is this being covered up? Is this another public official in trouble that is just going to be driving the next day? I believe that we deserve to know the answers! Is it ok for a neighbor to just shoot another in cold blood and get no punishment? I thought that a person who did this should be arrested immediately then try to prove his innocence.
