Family and friends are mourning the loss of a young man who died in Parkersburg Thursday night.

Parkersburg Police say 20-year-old Chad Friend was shot Thursday evening with a 12-gauge shot gun, when Friend and a family member got into a dispute with a neighbor.

Many have spent the day sharing memories of Friend, who is described as fun, intelligent and a good christian man.

"He was just about as close to perfect as you can get for a kid. He worked hard and everybody liked him," Carol Friend, Chad's mother, said.

"We were just so proud of what God was doing in Chad and through Chad," Kathryn Hutzler, a member of Liberty Street Church of God, said.

No arrests have been made in the shooting at this time.

The case remains under investigation as police continue conducting interviews and evaluating evidence.

Friend was a member of Liberty Street Church of God, which has set up a memorial fund to help pay for funeral expenses.

Anyone wanting to donate can write a check to the Chad Friend Memorial Fund.

Checks can be mailed or dropped off at the church or United Bank.

ok. if some one that i told to leave my house comes back with back up i am going to shoot first. TY castle doct. if chad is so innocent, why did he go to the house after a fight was ended. what was the reason. A friend in marietta was beat to death because someone brought back up to his house. just because they weere too young to drink and he kicked them out. they got more and killed him in his own house. i would hate for that to happen again. if you have the means to defend yourself do it before they take it away from you.

We went to school w/Chad from elementary to high school. We weren't close friends but we conversed often. He was a great example of how a young man should be. We're sorry to hear about this tragedy. Family and friends will be in our prayers.

Let me first start by saying that i am from W.V i moved about 12 years ago and the last time i came home for a visit i couldnt believe how many police there are now i dont ever remember having that many police. The sad part is that it seems like there are moe crimes now than there were when there werent as many police. I have thought about moving back but everytime i thing about it i hear about something bad happening. Back to the subject you tell me since when are you allowed to shoot and take somebodys life and still go to sleep in your own bed at night. So you are telling me this man is getting away with murder and still gets to see his family everyday while the victims family suffers for the rest of their life. Would he still be free if he shot a police officer???

Unfortunately, no one except the father and the shooter know the true circumstances. Everything we read on blogs and in print is circumstantial. Just because someone is not "charged" doesn't mean its a cover-up. I have prayed for Chad, his father, his family, and also the shooter and his family. I believe that is what my God wants me to do.
