Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia Young Democrats are honoring the state's coal miners.
The political group says Gov. Joe Manchin is going to proclaim the Sunday before Labor Day West Virginia Coal Miner Appreciation Day.
Manchin is expected to sign the proclamation at a ceremony Friday at the Coal Miner Memorial at the capitol.
The organization says it pushed a resolution to create coal miner appreciation day through the legislature last year.
President Justin Williams says the effort long predated the mining protests that have occurred this year and the national debate on climate change legislation.
