W.Va.'s 2009 SAT Scores Down Slightly From 2008

Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia's graduating high school seniors scored above the nationwide average on the critical reading and writing sections of the SAT exam but did worse in mathematics.

The College Board, which owns the most widely used college-admissions test, said the 3,373 seniors who took the test in West Virginia through March 2009 had an average score of 511 in reading, 501 in math and 499 in writing.

The national averages are 501 in reading, 515 in math and 493 in writing.

Scores were down somewhat from 2008, when 3,427 students averaged 512 in reading, 501 in math and 498 in writing.
