Parkersburg, W.Va. (AP) -- The Parkersburg-based chapter of the American Red Cross plans to establish five new locations in West Virginia this fall.
The Mid-Ohio Valley chapter of the organization plans to use a $125,000 Americorps grant to set up shop in Jackson, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane and Calhoun Counties.
Starting Oct. 1, the Red Cross will place two Americorps volunteers in each county to recruit and train volunteers for emergency preparedness.
The training will include cpr, first aid, shelter operations and other skills needed when disasters occur.
Red Cross program director Sharon Kesselring says the grant is substantial, but the Red Cross is still looking for funding to help run the new offices and programs.
