Follansbee, W.Va. (AP) -- When it came to color schemes for the renovation of the Market Street bridge, brown-and-cream didn't have much of a chance against blue-and-gold.
The winning color combination, which matches the colors of West Virginia University, won out in an online poll over several less immediately stirring choices.
The 105-year-old bridge between Follansbee and Steubenville, Ohio has been closed since Aug. 6 for renovations, and may not reopen until late September.
The West Virginia Department of Transportation conducted the online poll to choose a new color scheme for the bridge, and more than 14,500 people voted.
Follansbee mayor Tony Paesano says residents in the area are happy the familiar mountaineer color scheme is the winner.
