Morgantown, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia University may soon find out who its new provost is.

President James Clements says he plans to announce his choice for chief academic officer sometime this week.

The contenders are Michele Wheatly of Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio; James Coleman of Rice University in Houston; and Jeffrey Armstrong of Michigan State University.

WVU is looking to replace former provost Gerald Lang, who resigned over the improper, retroactive granting of a master's degree to Heather Bresch, the daughter of Gov. Joe Manchin.

Clements says he will also soon name a chief information officer and a chief legal officer.

The Board of Governors on Friday gave him the ok to hire a new general counsel and vice president for legal affairs.
