Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia's unemployment rate increased two-tenths of a percentage point in august as another 900 state residents lost their jobs.
Workforce West Virginia says the increase boosted the state's unemployment rate to 8.6 percent last month.
Overall, there are 68,600 west virginians unemployed.
But Workforce West Virginia says not all is bad. The state gained 3,600 jobs in goods and service sectors of the economy.
The biggest winners were in manufacturing, construction, education and health services.
The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August was 9 percent.
The national unemployment rate was 9.7 percent.
