Morgantown, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia University will soon have a new provost.

WVU president James Clements plans to announce the hiring Wednesday afternoon at the school's downtown campus in Morgantown.

The candidates are Michele Wheatly, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio; James Coleman, vice provost for research at Rice University in Houston; and Jeffrey Armstrong, dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University.

The university is looking to fill the vacancy created when former provost Gerald Lang resigned in the wake of a scandal involving a master's degree improperly awarded to Heather Bresch, the daughter of Gov. Joe Manchin.
