A man's body found in the river nearly two weeks ago has been identified as Shawn Riffle.

Wood County Sheriff Jeff Sandy says the department received the information Monday morning from the West Virginia Medical Examiner's office.

Officers found the body in the river near the Belpre shore just south of the Little Kanawha River September 12th.

Law enforcement officials said they didn't suspect foul play at the time of the incident.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Shawn's family. I only knew him in passing but he always had a smile on his face and he will certainly be missed.

Shawn was in his 30's. He was raised in Belpre, I use to be friends with him. Great guy, very funny and caring. I will miss him.

Well as you can all see and feel, It took two weeks to post the ID. A young lady my daughter goes to high school with found out that this was her uncle by the paeer saying Shawn Riffle was the missing person. That tells the world that is the person. To me that's not fair to the family. Shawn had ID with him shy not go by that contact familly and then tell the rest of us what the hell is going on in our towns. I can do nothing myself but rant and rave. I wish I had the means of helping people. They used to go about things different. As in the new paper and TV, they used to wait till the family was notified. Without giving us the thought it could be someone becuase they are missing. Find out first then tell your front page stoies. There hardly any compition here we'll read and listen to both the papers and the TV. Let the families find out from the police, not from the paper where you are not 100% positive who it is, not who it maybe.

I wasn't aware any investigation had taken place. I was under the impression that a "witness"'s word was taken and not questioned. I'll go ahead and say it- had he been better off or prominent in the community there would be more than "a body found in the river". I mean, no one even knows HOW or WHY it happened, or WHO was with him WHEN it happened.
