Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- Gov. Joe Manchin has ordered state flags at the capitol to be flown at half-staff on sunday to honor West Virginia's fallen firefighters.
The action is to observe Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day. The day has been celebrated for the past nine years.
West Virginia has more than 10,000 career and volunteer firefighters. Manchin says the day is an opportunity to give thanks to those who risk their lives to save lives and property.
Manchin's order covers all state flags at the Capitol Complex.
