Becky Thatcher Leaving Town

It will be a sad day for some folks in Marietta Wednesday as an historic showboat makes her way up the river to a new home in Pittsburgh.

The Becky Thatcher has spent the past several decades in the Muskingum River along the banks of Marietta.

Even though not much has been done with the boat in the past couple of years, many remember its heyday, and say it'll be tough to see her go.

"I think bittersweet is the proper term. It's been an eyesore for a while, so it's time to move on. But it had a day, and I wish they had found a way to make it a good one again," Mike Pingry, a Marietta resident, said.

Crews are expected to begin moving the Becky Thatcher Wednesday around 8 a.m.

Well, another piece of Front Street gone. With the Brewery in debt well over half of her net worth, it will be gone next. No one will buy it, and the current owner will cut his losses and walk away. Perhaps an adventurous businessman from out of town will buy it. I will hate to see this local microbrewery be hauled out of town.

Sad sad day for the mid ohio valley, Just proves what a hole this area is. I have lived here almost all my life and I am more and more embarrassed to tell people that everyday. Getting worse than the slums in the bigger citys.

It was the only reason I went to Marietta. I liked the live music and partying on the back of the 'thatch. Met plenty of nice girls there and always had a heck of a good time. Sorry to see it go, I hope the 'burg treats her well.
