Newark, Ohio (AP) -- The Longaberger Basket Company says strong sales of its new National Football League and college team baskets are allowing it to call back 50 laid-off employees.

Longaberger, based in Newark in central Ohio, says the workers began returning this week.

The company announced nearly 300 layoffs early in the year.

In September, the Longaberger Co. introduced licensed basket sets featuring all 32 NFL teams and select universities, including Ohio State, Michigan State and Virginia Tech.

Additional schools will be added as they give approval.

I am thrilled that Longaberger has called some of the employees back to work. I have had the privilege of being an independent consulatnt with the Longaberger Company for over 15 years and they are a wonderful company. I too have sold several of the team baskets
