Morgantown, W.Va. (AP) -- If president James Clements has his way, West Virginia University will hire at least 100 new professors over the next three years.
Clements said in his first state of the university address Monday that WVU must meet the demands of ever-increasing enrollment.
He says he initially thought the student-faculty ratio was 23-to-1, but he was wrong.
He says it's closer to 27-to-1, and that's too high.
Faculty senate chairman Nigel Clark said he's excited by the prospect of having so many new colleagues by 2012, but it may be a tough task.
He says paying for those positions is difficult, and he hopes tuition and research dollars will help.
