Fire departments were out all across the Mid-Ohio Valley Saturday trying to control brush fires. One department caught the flames before it got out of hand.
The Waverly Volunteer fire fighters got to a Wood County home on Old St. Marys Pike Saturday afternoon just in time.
Captain Darrell Gates said the homeowner was cleaning his yard with a mowing tractor when the leaves under his tractor caught on fire and the flames scorched parts of the yard.
No one was injured, but Gates wants to remind the public to take precautions when doing yard work this time of year.
"This is fire season and a windy day like today (Saturday) it could have took off and caused some damage, " said Gates.
Wood County 9-1-1 dispatchers said there was also a minor brush fire in Williamstown.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office also had dispatched out the Warren Volunteer Fire Department to Wittekind Road to respond to a brush fire.
