Local Goodwill Receives a Pricey but Illegal Donation

Tis the season for giving, and as donations pour into thrift stores, a local Goodwill received a $1,500 donation. The only problem is, it's illegal in stores and on the street.

Imagine the surprise on an employees face who opens a water jug and finds one pound of marijuana. That's exactly what happened Friday at the Goodwill on Colgate Drive in Marietta.

A two gallon metal water jug was donated to Goodwill, but Marietta police say when employees opened it, they found four bags of marijuana that together equal about a pound.

Police say it has a street value of around $1,500.

Because this was an anonymous donation, there's really no way of telling who or where the pot came from.

"If anybody would like to come in and claim this "cooler," which is probably an antique, we would love to have them come in and we'll be more than happy to try and get that cooler returned to them," Marietta Police Captain Jeff Waite said.

Police say the marijuana appears to be more than a year old, and was probably donated by accident.

1500 dollars for a pound of weed, I'm suprised they didn't use the police officers price guide for the find. It would have went like so, police found one pound of marijuana with an estimated street value of 2.5 million dollars.Thats some fine police work there lou.

I can just imagine a conversation between the pot smoker and his sig other going something like, "you donated what to who???" Too funny.

If this had happened in the UK, the employees who found the weed would have been arrested for possession with intent to distribute. Look up the case about the guy who found the gun in his backyard, brought it in to the police station, and was put n jail for owning a firearm.

I love all the people bashing the potheads for trying to do something nice. (Maybe they thought someone there could move the pot and the money would go to help goodwill). I bet none of you "wastes of skin" have done anything helpful lately, except maybe trying to get everyone else to live just like you. Just remember 1/3 of all crimes in this country involve the use of alcohol, and are usually violent crimes. How often do potheads cause violent crimes? Got any proof?

Y'all hate pot heads so much! Enjoy your liquor, then. Or your pill drugs. Or your self-righteousness. Something's gotta be getting you high.

Hilarious to read the idiotic responses posted by knee-jerk Republicans (no-doubt) living in the dark ages. It was a donation folks, donated, you know, given to Goodwill by someone of their own freewill with charitable/good intentions. More than likely the pot was knowingly donated as well, as a joke or 'goof'. $1500? Cops always overstate cash value with pot. Anyone with any intelligence knows full well 1lb. of trimmings (leaf) is not that valuable nor hardly desired by consumers. Go ahead and keep your heads in our fertile WV soil. Never mind the facts; it's a plant, not a drug, benefits are well documented, alcohol and tobacco are the real evils but embraced, go figure. Pots cousin Hemp (no thc content)is a wonderful crop for many reasons, look it up. In the '40's US gov't touted all its benefits and ran a huge campaign to grow it, Hemp for Victory.

gees, why so much hate, they were being nice, donating to goodwill, maybe it wasn't even their pot, they could have been cleaning a rental and found it, then were thoughtful enough to drive by gwill and drop it off, and as for the police asking them to come forward and claim it, why would they, REMEMBER, they were GIVING IT AWAY in the first place, I wonder if it will end up back at goodwill for sale, empty of course
