I think there are more important issues to discuss concerning Parkersburg High School than this. My son attends the school and I am petitioning the Board of Ed to reconsider and evaluate the transistion of 6th graders into junior high and the 9th graders into high school. What a huge mistake with devistating consequences! If anyone agrees with this statement please comment. I will be posting a petition online soon. To the Wood Couty Board of Education: Quit compromising the future to preserve the past.

The folks in the mid ohio valley would not even be happy with Coach Joe Paterno. Hope Parkersurg loses all their games next year. They deserve it for being mean to Mr. Buttrey. Good luck Bernie !!

After reading some of these comments, I think that some Big Reds fans would only be happy with Buttrey if he went 122-0 and won 8 straight state championships in his 8 years at PHS. 66-30 and 2 championships is outstanding on any level of football. As for rumors, anytime a Big Reds coach loses a game there are rumors that he's about to be fired or forced to resign. Great job and Good Luck Bernie. And Good Luck to the next man who occupies the Big Reds head coach hot seat. And to all those "Anonymous" posters out there, man up. Have the guts to own up to your opinions.

Give me a break. The coverage that WTAP has given this, you would have thought that the President was in town. LIVE coverage from PHS at 5pm and 6pm. Unbelievable!! All because Buttrey is giving up coaching. He wasn't that great of a coach anyway. He'll be back coaching within 2 years, mark my word. PHS needs to also clean house with all of their Asst. Coaches also.

Yes like everyone said time to move on to bigger and better things. I heard he quit so he could interview for the job at notre dame after having loosing seasons in a row at AAA high school football in WV. Best of luck Bernie.

Rob, you are too funny!! He may have won 2 titles, but it was only because he had talented boys on his team at the time. He is not that great of a coach...especially on a college level. Hopefully his replacement is better!!
