Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- Pre-kindergarten programs in West Virginia will be required to offer children one daily meal beginning in the fall of 2010.
The state board of education approved the requirement Thursday.
It applies to both school-based programs and programs operated by churches and day care centers.
Programs must offer either breakfast or lunch.
Clayton Burch with the state department of education's office of special programs says free or reduced-priced meals will be offered to children who would qualify for them in elementary or middle schools.
