Charleston, W.Va. (Ap) -- Workforce West Virginia says 1,800 residents joined the unemployment rolls in november as the state's jobless rate rose to 7.9 percent.

November's rate was two-tenths of percentage point higher than October's rate.

The increase raised the total number of unemployed West Virginians to 62,800.

Despite the increase, the service-providing sector gained 1,700 jobs, including 1,400 in trade, transportation and utilities.

The goods-producing sector gained 600 manufacturing jobs but lost 800 jobs in construction and 200 in mining and logging.
