Shepherdstown, W.Va. (AP) -- A program that provides technical assistance to startup businesses in distressed West Virginia counties is getting a $250,000 boost.
The Natural Capital Investment fund said Wednesday it has received a grant from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation for its operating assistance fund.
The pilot program helps ensure new businesses can make good on their debts.
The fund also helps companies develop marketing materials, employee training manuals, market assessments, financial reports and other materials.
Marten Jenkins, president of Natural Capital Investment Fund, says the funding will help get the program off the ground, and he hopes it will eventually expand.
