Stonewood, W.Va. (AP) -- A West Virginia group has won a federal grant of nearly $252,000 to help promote economic growth.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced $6.5 million in grants to organizations in 18 states Thursday.
West Virginia Community Development Hub, based in Harrison County, is on the list.
It was formed in September 2008 by the merger of two statewide nonprofits, Community Collaborative Inc. and the Community Development Partnership of West Virginia.
Agriculture secretary Tom Vilsack says partnerships with rural America and investments in their local efforts are important to the USDA.
The grants are from the rural community development initiative program.
Recipients must obtain matching funds.
