Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- Gov. Joe Manchin has ordered all West Virginia flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff in honor of a fallen Kanawha County firefighter.

Manchin on Tuesday ordered the flags to be lowered Wednesday to commemorate the life and service of Glasgow volunteer firefighter Donald Adkins III.

The 32-year-old Adkins was swept away while attempting a water rescue in a swollen Raleigh County Creek.

His funeral is set for Wednesday at Riverside High School.
