Overall the Mid-Ohio Valley is a safe place to live, but as with any community, catastrophe could strike at any time.

The United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley met with 32 of its 39 agencies Tuesday morning for disaster preparedness training.

Leaders from the organizations are learning communication skills in case a mass sheltering or feeding would be needed in the area.

"I think they would be there to reach out and help the first responders and other community leaders if called upon, so they would really be prepared to take a leadership role if necessary," Joyce Mather, executive director of the United Way Alliance of the MOV, said.

The hope is that these leaders leave the training with the ability to step up and help in any type of disaster situation.
