Wood County Sheriff Deputies took time out Saturday morning to give needy kids an early Christmas present.

It was all part of the annual Christmas Bike Giveaway put on by the Wood County Deputies Sheriff's Association.

Kids and parents throughout the county braved the rain day to receive a bike from deputies and Santa Claus.

Over 100 bikes were purchased by the Deputies Sheriff's Association. Joe Shriad of the southside K-Mart ordered the bikes for them while Bill Wright and students at the Wood County Technical Center put them together for free.

"Unfortunately, Law Enforcement is not recognized as a friend to a lot of people in the community. This way we can reach out to the children and let the children know that we don't necessarily respond when somebody's in trouble, that we can be a friend to them and hope to make Christmas better for them," says Wood County Sheriff Deputy, Shana Modesitt.

Parents who needed assistance through the salvation army signed their kids up to receive a bike.
