This wasn't an ordinary dog walk as pet owners led their dogs down Front Street to honor Ashlee Scott.
The avid animal lover lost her life back in October 2009.
"Ashlee was an avid, avid animal lover. She had all kinds of animals of her own and Ashlee became ill and passed away, so her mom came to the shelter and we just decided that since she was such an avid animal lover and supporter of the shelter, that we would call this the Ashlee Scott Memorial Paws Walk," says Humane Society of the Ohio Valley Member, Louise Holmes.
Even though it's an annual dog walk the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley put on for 14 years, many pet owners like Marcia Holschuh, are glad to support another person who had a big passion for the animals.
"Ashlee was very involved with the humane society and a pet lover and so am I and I like to support her cause and her family's effort to support the humane society in Marietta," added Holschuh.
Scott's mom, Lucy, appreciates the community's support in honoring her daughter by having this walk for the fourth year.
"It's wonderful to see this growing each year. getting bigger and bigger. The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley does a wonderful job, Steve Herron, all the board members, the staff and many volunteers," replied Lucy Scott.
And with the large turnout of people dressing their dogs in different costumes and getting raffle tickets to win prizes, her legacy of loving pets continues to live on.
"Well I'm really glad that we had this turnout, she would be very happy knowing that we love her and are gonna to keep this going because she loved animals and she loved people," Linda Murphy said.
All proceeds from the walk will go to the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley.
They usually bring in around $4,000.
