Students at one area middle school took time out of their studies Friday afternoon to honor our country.

The Marietta Chapter Sons of the American Revolution held a flag ceremony at Marietta Middle School.

A new flag and flag pole were donated to the school this year.

The flag is 12 by 18 feet and was installed to start the year.

The flag pole was donated by Sylvie and Jim Caparell of American Flags and Poles.

"We all should know about the flag. We should all have a good understanding of it, its purpose, the meaning behind it. It's important just to be an American," says Marietta Middle School Principal, Will Hampton.

Marietta Chapter Sons of the American Revolution President, Jean Yost, Captain James Neal Chapter of the West Virginia Society, Sons of the American Revolution and the Marietta VFW Post 5108 also made an appearance at the ceremony.
