Mayor Bob Newell requests a base increase for the new city finance director.
Tonight the city's personnel committee as well as the finance committee both approved the motion to increase the salary range which would be $55,000 to $60,000.
Based upon a market study of accounting jobs and the required qualifications, the new range is adequate, but still considered low.
Mayor Newell said, "The fact of the matter is the job of the city is a little more difficult, you know a budget of taxpayers money and it is roughly 25 million a year they are having to deal with. So it's an important job."
The finance committee also approved Mayor Newell's request to eliminate the assistant finance director position, which is currently vacant, and to save money
In three weeks the motion will be brought to city council.
