The freezing temperatures prompt AEP Ohio to urge customers to conserve electricity this week.
The temps could push the demand for electricity to record-breaking levels, straining capacity.
Ways you can conserve include:
setting thermostats lower
turning off lights and appliances when you aren't using them
use major appliances in the middle of the day or after 9 p.m.
seal off unheated, unused rooms
set your water heater between 120 and 130 degrees
If an outage occurs, you can call 1-800-672-2231.
