CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Abortion rights advocates rallied at the West Virginia Capitol to counter calls for the state to regulate the procedures.

WV FREE, the American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia and other groups hosted Tuesday's rally. It came a month after lawmakers and anti-abortion advocates kicked off a campaign to push for regulation of abortion clinics.

West Virginia is one of 11 states that don't require a licensed doctor to perform an abortion. Because the state doesn't license the providers, it doesn't inspect the facilities.

In June, Republican Attorney General Patrick Morrisey sent letters to the state's two abortion clinics with questionnaires about their policies and practices. The clinics refused to respond.

On Monday, Democratic Delegate Stephen Skinner sent similar letters to dozens of anti-abortion "crisis pregnancy centers" across the state.
