The number of people flying into and out of the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport is the largest in at least five years.

It's estimated more than 8,300 people will board commercial flights by the end of the year.

That's partly due to slow but steady improvement in the economy.

But the airport also credits advertising of its available flights.

"There's a lot of people who forgot you can fly out of here. They were driving to Columbus, to Canton-Akron, to Charleston," says Jeff McDougle, interim airport manager. "When they realize they have an hour and a half less drive to make and free parking here, we've become attractive."

Silver Airways has been providing flights to Cleveland from Wood County for three years.

Its contract is up in 2014.

McDougle expects Silver will be one of the bidders for a new contract, but hopes other air carriers will be interested, as well.
