A wave of vandalism, involving nearly a half dozen churches in three counties.

The Wood County Sheriff's Office says sometime between Sunday night, April 21, and Monday morning, April 22, signs were vandalized at churches along Route 14 in Wood, Wirt and Roane counties.

Included was the Mount Zion Church in Mineral Wells and the Slate Church of Christ.

"I think it either traveled from Wood County into Roane County, or Roane County into Wood County," says Sheriff Ken Merritt, "because it took a route, and more likely, both persons did it both ways."

It's believed the signs were run over, either by an SUV or a pickup truck.
