Community Discuss Marcellus Shale and Hydraulic Fracturing

Energize West Virginia and America's Natural Gas Alliance co-hosted the community meeting.

It's one of several of it's kind across West Virginia.

These forums are meant to educate the public on the pros and cons of fracking practices.

Natural gas advocates say a lot of the information out there is misleading.

"There has not been any confirmed instances of contaminated ground water from a properly fracked/encased well. And that's not the industry talking, that's the WV DEP and US EPA. But you know what that doesn't resonate with people. You gotta show them examples," says Executive Director of West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association Corky DeMarco.

Not everyone in the crowd was happy with the presentation and information given. Several feel industry groups are skewing information to their advantage.
