A step toward the refurbishing of the Uptowner Inn was taken at Tuesday night's Parkersburg City Council meeting.
City council voted unanimously to authorize a cooperation agreement with Uptown Lodging, LLC, allowing the project to move forward on their own timetable.
Mayor Bob Newell says this was a significant hurdle removed so construction might begin in late spring or early summer.
"It's an incentive package that we've offered them to re-do the Uptowner Inn," explains Mayor Newell, "and it's a similar package that we give anybody who will take a vacant building and renovate the inside of it."
In other business council voted to defeat a move to permanently eliminate longevity pay for city employees.
Instead, longevity pay remains suspended until further action is taken.
