Count on Coal Campaign

While the shale industry booms the coal industry feels the impact of even tougher environmental standards.

House Bill 506 2013 would transfer the power from the federal EPA to the state EPA with any new regulations on coal fired power plants.

Count on Coal Thursday asked the Washington County Commissioners to pass a resolution in support of the bill and trying to keep the coal fired power plants alive.

They said yes.

"We do not know exactly what they are going to hand down...but based on past practice, it will not be good for this community or any other community in the State of Ohio," says Doug Matheney, director of Count on Coal.

Matheney says should they start closing down the coal fired power plants, you can expect your bill to raise by 80 percent.

He is traveling to different counties across the State of Ohio asking commissioners to pass this resolution.
